History of Albir:
In the beginning Alfas del Pi was called L’Alfaz de Polop due to it’s links with the Barony of Polop. The settlement was set back from the beach (known as Albir) and fortified in order to defend itself from the pirates who would loot and plunder the settlements along this stretch of the Spanish coast.
The first thing you will see it that Albir has no high-rise properties or hotel blocks. Albir has grown from a small community in the last few years into a great holiday destination. Attracting visitors from all places who soon decided to make it their permanent home.
Surrounding
Albir you will find a protected nature reserver called the Sierra Helada (Frozen Mountain). Albir beach is a pebble beach with clear water and has been awarded the blue flag of the European Community for the quality of its water, available facilities and for having all kinds of events on and around the beach.
The main promenade is of Albir is called, Paseo de las Estrellas (Stars Promenade) As Alfaz del Pi holds an annual national film festival every July. The town decided to copy the Hollywood initiative of laying paving stones along the promenade and dedicating them to national film stars.
In july and August there is a small market of local craft and artwork trades at the upper end of the sea front where you can purchase original jewelry, leather goods and souvenirs. Roller skating used to be allowed along the front but has since been banned although there are two children's playgrounds on the beach itself.
Properties:
The most properties in Albir exist out apartments, town houses and old plots.
Properties on the albir mountain exist out villas, chalets and bungalows.
There are not much new projects for sale in Albir comparing with other closely encircling towns like Villajoyosa, Altea, Finestrat, La Nucia, Polop and Benidorm.
